The
idea that synthetic absorbents are the most cost effective and efficient
is a thing of the past. Chemtex Industries is delighted to introduce
ChemSorb, a revolutionary product utilizing Kenaf, the strongest natural
absorbent created by Mother Nature and Rio Grande Valley farmers that
not only can absorb up to 40 times its weight but actually assists in
improving the environment!

Kenaf is a
tough, fibrous plant that resembles a very tall okra plant with similar
leaves and blossoms. It is planted and grown very close together. With
the right moisture, nutrients and plenty of sunlight, the stalk
s
can reach heights of 12 feet or more in about 180 days. Composed of two
different fibers, bast (bark) and core, Kenaf is grown best in the
warmer areas of the temperate zones, such as the Lower Rio Grande Valley
of Texas.
Historically,
since these fibers are richer in cellulose than wood it has been used in
a myriad of products such as interior car parts, animal bedding and much
more. In every instance, manufacturers had the opportunity to choose
between using traditional wood or an annual crop base for fiber that
does not endanger or deplete our forests. In the new decision between
harmful synthetics and nature, Kenaf in ChemSorb boast extra incentives.
ChemSorb
wraps the Kenaf in polypropylene material in both a boom and pad form.
This fabric acids in locking the spill into the core of the product. The
combination of the two materials absorb most chemical compounds before
water to control everyday leaks or spill of any size!
To top even
that Chemtex Industries has created an additional product that combines
and additional bacterial to the Kenaf to be used when the spill is of
great magnitude and poses a large, harmful environmental risk. This
enhances the ability for ChemSorb to consume all harmful components of
the spill.
The
versatility of ChemSorb is absolutely astonishing! It may be used to
contain oil spills on land, in plants or even on water! Besides
absorbing oil at tremendous rates it quickly absorbs virtually anything
on the EPA's list of hazardous material.
ChemSorb
will absorb the compound with no fear of reaction or immediate
deterioration (unless is it a strong acid or base of less than 4ph or
greater than 12ph).
It is the
safest and most environmentally conscious product on the market. The
materials used to manufacture ChemSorb are not chemically treated, but
have remarkable wicking and absorbent qualities none the less. It
minimizes the chance of spontaneous combustion of volatile liquids,
which can occur with other absorbents or rags. When ChemSorb is used to
absorb gasoline spills, it quickly intakes the gas and majority of the
vapors with it locking it in to the ChemSorb product, thus reduces
flammable vapors by 80%!
Soil
microorganisms indigenous to ChemSorb are able to biodegrade the
petroleum product absorbed. Bio-remediation is intensified by the
presence of ChemSorb. It offers many benefits as it expedites the
process. Hydrocarbons are absorbed, eliminating further
contamination
of leaching. The natural microbial degradation is enhanced. Because the
need for labor intensity is lower, cost effectiveness increases
tremendously. Due in large part to ChemSorb, bio-remediation
altogether is less costly than other clean up methods, such as burning
or removing the soil.
ChemSorb also
saves money in the short run! It is so light in weight compared to
other
absorbents,
in transportation costs alone, hundreds can be preserved and used for
other desired investments. ChemSorb works longer and absorbs more than
any other absorbent including peat and clay. What's more, ChemSorb
saves money and the environment in its disposal. You can actually remove
the waste from the ChemSorb pad or boom by simply squeezing and then
disposing of the waste as appropriate for that specific product. You may
also dispose by incineration.
ChemSorb, a
light weight, non-toxic, non-abrasive, natural fiber product produced
form Kenaf. ChemSorb has been proven to be an effective absorbent
material on floors, land and water applications. Tests conducted have
shown that 1 lb. of ChemSorb will pick up approximately 1.2 gallons of
oil. ChemSorb can be recovered by vacuuming, sweeping, skimming and can
be used to solidify liquid waste for sage transport of hazardous
materials. ChemSorb is used by industrial facilities, fuel stations,
hazardous materials and emergency response departments, fire
departments, transportation carriers, refineries, utility companies, oil
rig operations (land and water), and bulk storage terminals for spills
of oil and non-aggressive fluids.
